Look up a licenseHow cannabis is sold in Allschwil
On 7 December 2023 an operator's press release announced the opening of what it called Europe's first legal cannabis specialty shop, in Allschwil.
Article 8a of the Narcotics Act takes effect, allowing time-limited scientific trials of regulated cannabis supply, for ten years.
Grashaus Projects announces the Allschwil shop; a second opens in Liestal. The trial is run by the Berlin company Sanity Group, and up to 3,950 people may take part.
Enrolled participants report buying from illegal sources on about 10 days a month, down from around 20 before the trial, according to first results reported by bz Basel.
Verdex lists Grashaus Projects at Baslerstrasse 198, marked verified.
A border-town shop on a border-town road
Baslerstrasse is the road toward Basel, and Allschwil touches France, so the postcode makes cross-border curiosity easy and eligibility impossible: a visitor cannot enrol. The federal health office publishes each approved trial, and Article 8a is limited to ten years, so this is an experiment, not a permanent market. Products range from dried flower to hashish, extracts, vape liquids and edibles. The Swiss pilot trial guide explains enrolment, and the Basel-Landschaft page keeps the canton overview.

Cannabis in Allschwil: questions
Can I just walk into the Allschwil shop?
No. The register describes it as open to enrolled residents 18 and over only, so sales are tied to trial membership and not to a passing customer.
Where is the second Grashaus shop?
In Liestal, the cantonal capital. The trial runs two specialty shops, one there and one in Allschwil.
