How cannabis is sold in Vaud (Lausanne)

Lausanne runs its own pilot trial, Cann-L, with Addiction Suisse. It chose a non-profit store model: a single city-center sales point run by an association, which opened on December 11, 2023. At launch it offered three types of flower; the range now includes flower, resin, oils and e-liquids.

Participation is limited to adults who live in Lausanne and already use cannabis, with exclusions for pregnancy, breastfeeding and certain health problems. Nearly 2,000 people were taking part, and the project said registrations were open in 2026, with new places released each week. People living elsewhere in Vaud cannot join.

Outside the trial, the national rules apply across the canton. CBD shops sell hemp products with less than 1% THC. Possession of up to 10 grams by adults is not punished, but consumption brings a CHF 100 fine, and driving with 1.5 micrograms of THC per liter of blood or more is treated as unfit to drive. Medical cannabis requires a doctor's prescription.
