About Hindu Kush
The Hindu Kush strain is named after the mountain range that stretches for hundreds of miles between Afghanistan and Pakistan, and it is one of the purest indica lines still in circulation. Is Hindu Kush indica or sativa? Pure indica: Sensi Seeds sells it as a 100% indica landrace, and CannaConnection notes it has been inbred for decades to keep it stable.
Its aroma is its signature. Sensi Seeds describes a sweet, earthy sandalwood flavor and a smell of wet pine that grows stronger in flower, and Leafly reviewers call it earthy, woody, spicy and pungent. Unusually for an indica, Leafly's lab data shows limonene as the leading terpene, followed by beta-caryophyllene, pinene and linalool. Limonene brightens what would otherwise be a very dark, woody profile, and linalool adds a faint floral note.
Hindu Kush effects are calm and physical. Leafly users most often report feeling sleepy, then relaxed, hungry and tingly, and Sensi describes an anesthetic, whole-body effect without extreme couch-lock. Consumers most often mention using it for sleep, everyday aches, stress and low appetite. Dry mouth and dry eyes are the main side effects in Leafly's data, and anxious reactions are rare. Most sources place THC around 18–20%; AllBud's 22–32% range is far above other figures and is best ignored.
Hindu Kush is the root of a large family. Leafly lists OG Kush and Purple Kush among its offspring, and Master Kush was built from two Hindu Kush landraces. Compared with Afghan Kush, it is less sleepy and less prone to dizziness in Leafly's data. Growers like it for compact size, a short flowering time of 45–50 days per Sensi, resistance to pests and temperature changes, and a thick trichome coat that makes it a classic choice for kief and hash.
Origin & history
Hindu Kush is a landrace from the mountain range between Afghanistan and Pakistan, a region Sensi Seeds describes as a meeting point of old cannabis traditions and a source of genuine indica genotypes and black hashish. Its seed lines have been selected within their own gene pool over many generations to produce uniform plants; CannaConnection says this inbreeding has gone on since the mid-to-late 20th century. Sensi Seeds reports that High Times magazine named its Hindu Kush one of the 25 best cannabis strains of all time.
