The day it began

On 15 December 2023, regulated cannabis went on sale in Tilburg and Breda, according to the national experiment pages, making this one of the two places where the trial first reached a shop counter. The transition phase followed on 17 June 2024, and the full experiment phase began on 7 April 2025 and runs for about four years. Around 80 coffeeshops in the ten municipalities take part, and in each of those municipalities every coffeeshop must, so a Tilburg shop has no choice of supply. The register calls the group's lounges tobacco-free and alcohol-free and says no more about house rules.
