How cannabis is sold in Breda
What did the first phase change?
Breda's own experiment page gives the timetable: a start-up phase from 15 December 2023, a transition phase from 17 June 2024 and the full experiment from 7 April 2025, lasting about four years. From that April, its shops may sell nothing but regulated cannabis, with a two-month enforcement pause for hash while growers improved production. The rule for buyers is that you must live in the Netherlands, one of three trial towns to demand it.
Coffeeshop De Baron, at Boschstraat 127, is the listing we hold. The register says it has traded since 1988, opens 11:00 to 22:00, an earlier close than the midnight hours common elsewhere, and scores 7.9. Whether Breda has other licensed shops is a question for the municipality, since we list one; the Netherlands had 563 licensed coffeeshops in 103 municipalities in 2024, so a single row is a small slice.
Where is the Brabant comparison?
Tilburg started the same day but is not one of the three residents-only trial towns, and the Brabant residency guide is the place to check before travelling. The North Brabant hub carries the rest of the province.
Cannabis in Breda: questions
When did regulated cannabis reach Breda's counters?
On 15 December 2023 in the start-up phase, and exclusively from 7 April 2025 once all shops were required to sell trial supply.
Why are De Baron's hours shorter?
The register lists 11:00 to 22:00. Opening hours in Dutch coffeeshops are set by each municipality's rules or the operator, and the sources I opened do not say which applies here.
