None of the 24 places below will sell THC cannabis to a visitor. Switzerland still treats cannabis at 1% THC or more as a narcotic; since May 15, 2021, Article 8a of the Narcotics Act has allowed city and cantonal pilot trials where enrolled adults who already use cannabis buy it legally. A "dispensary" here is a trial counter: a pharmacy such as Apotheke zum Kreuzplatz in Zurich, a social club, a drug information centre, or the non-profit Cann-L store in Lausanne, open since December 2023. You must live in the trial's area and register first.

Numbers come from the Federal Office of Public Health overview and each trial's own site. In Zurich each participant may buy up to 10 g of pure THC a month, equal to 50 g of a 20% product, and may use it only in private or in participating social clubs. In SCRIPT pharmacies, flower with 8% THC cost CHF 10 a gram and 18% flower CHF 13.
You choose one outlet and cannot switch trials. Opening hours are narrow: the Zurich drug information centre, for instance, dispenses on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons. Step-by-step enrolment is in our city-by-city trial guide. Outside trials, the only legal cannabis is hemp below 1% THC in CBD shops.
Questions about this list
Can a tourist buy cannabis in a Swiss pilot trial?
No. The trials are closed studies for adult residents of the trial's city or canton who already use cannabis, according to the Federal Office of Public Health. There is no guest access, and anyone selling 'trial cannabis' to a visitor is breaking the law.
Can I join a trial if I live in another canton?
Only if that trial recruits there. Each trial takes residents of its own area, such as the city of Zurich for Züri Can or Lausanne for Cann-L, and a participant cannot switch from one trial to another.
Is CBD legal in Switzerland outside the trials?
Yes, up to 1% THC. Hemp flowers, resin and extracts under that line are sold openly in CBD shops, while anything eaten or drunk needs authorization as a novel food, according to the Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office.
