Zurich's social clubs are the one trial channel that also lets participants use what they buy on the premises. The city's Züri Can study started with ten social clubs, nine of them active, alongside ten pharmacies and a drug information centre. Verdex lists two: Hanfstübli, the Legalize it! Social Club at Aargauerstrasse 70 in Altstetten, which takes online orders for pickup, and Heidi's Garden Social Club at Niederdorfstrasse 24 in the old town, which charges no membership fee. Neither is open to the public. You must be an enrolled adult resident of the city of Zurich.

What enrolment in a Zurich club involves

  1. Check eligibility. Adult, not pregnant or breastfeeding, using cannabis regularly for more than a year, living in the City of Zurich, not a professional driver, good German.
  2. Choose one outlet. Pick a pharmacy, the drug information centre or a social club and book an assessment. You cannot switch later, and free places change constantly.
  3. Assessment on site. You sign the consent, and a urine test confirms use and rules out pregnancy.
  4. Questionnaire and study ID. Finish the online questionnaire within six weeks, then bring a Swiss ID or residence permit and a residence certificate no older than two months.

After enrolment you can buy for three years and complete a questionnaire every six months, according to the University of Zurich's project page. The monthly ceiling is 10 g of THC, which is 50 g of flower at 20%, and use is allowed only in private settings or participating social clubs. As of September 2026, 2,462 people were enrolled against a cap of 3,000, and purchases were extended to October 2028 after the city council funded the project in March 2026.

A club is a trial counter, not a members' club you can join on a whim. See the city-by-city trial guide for the other trials, and how the pilot trials and CBD shops fit together.
