About La Cannabinothèque
Geneva's non-profit legal cannabis outlet in Vernier-Châtelaine for the ChanGE pilot trial; residents only, long waiting list.
La Cannabinothèque is the non-profit cannabis outlet of Geneva's pilot trial, located in Vernier next to the Châtelaine post office. It is run by the association ChanGE, chaired by former Federal Councillor Ruth Dreifuss, with research partners at the University of Geneva's Institute of Sociological Research and the addiction service of Geneva University Hospitals (HUG). The outlet opened in December 2023.
Eligibility is strict. Participants must be 18 or older, live in the canton of Geneva and have used cannabis at least monthly in the six months before enrolling. People recently treated for problematic use, people with a psychiatric diagnosis and pregnant women are excluded. According to the City of Vernier, about 1,500 people were registered in April 2026, and ChanGE warned of a waiting list of more than six months.
Products are grown locally and organically and labeled with their THC content, which is capped at 20 percent. Le Courrier reported in January 2025 that the range included dried flower, pollen, resin and oil, from about 4 to 20 percent THC, and quoted one flower at CHF 12 per gram. The same report said the outlet is closed at weekends and that demand for low-THC products was higher than expected.
For anyone searching for legal cannabis in Geneva, La Cannabinothèque is the regulated option, but only for enrolled residents. The study plans three years of data collection.
