DEMECAN is a German producer of medical cannabis based in Ebersbach near Dresden, Saxony, where it operates a cultivation and processing site it calls the Cannabis Campus. The company was founded in 2017 by Dr. Adrian Fischer, Dr. Cornelius Maurer and Dr. Constantin von der Groeben, and in May 2019 it won a contract from the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM) to grow medical cannabis in Germany.
After the Medical Cannabis Act replaced the old narcotics framework in 2024, Demecan announced on 25 July 2024 that it had become the first German company to receive a cultivation permit under the new law. The company says the permit sets no quantity limit and expects an annual harvest of roughly two tonnes, compared with a previous cap of 990 kilograms. It covers the chain from cultivation and pharmaceutical processing to delivery to pharmacies, works to EU-GMP standards, and also offers imports, laboratory services and processing for other suppliers.
Patients cannot buy from Demecan directly. Its flower and extracts reach them only through pharmacies with a doctor's prescription; the DEMECAN FE 800 fresh extract, for example, appeared in Bloomwell's pharmacy listings in September 2026, and Berlin's jiroo pharmacy names Demecan among its suppliers. The company website includes a pharmacy finder.
Home-grown supply is still a small share of the German market. A federal evaluation cited by Legal Tribune Online estimated that up to 200 tonnes of medical cannabis were available in 2025, of which about 2.6 tonnes were produced in Germany, which makes Demecan one of the few sources of medical cannabis grown in Germany.
