Key takeaways

  • DTAM's Medical Cannabis GIS listed 8,923 active cannabis shops on 29 September 2026, in 73 of 77 provinces.
  • Bangkok has 1,685 (18.9%), Phuket 1,051, Chonburi 814 (which includes Pattaya), Surat Thani 712 (which includes Samui) and Chiang Mai 472.
  • Only 15 active premises are recorded as medical facilities and 8 as modern-medicine pharmacies, against 8,923 cannabis shops.
  • Chai Nat, Trat, Prachuap Khiri Khan and Sa Kaeo show no active shop on the map.

Search results for 'weed shop Pattaya' or 'cannabis Chiang Mai' give you a list of storefronts and no sense of scale. The department's own map gives the scale. Verdex read its data feed and counted by province. The feed is the dashboard's development ('dev') endpoint, and in April 2026 the department itself cited a higher figure of 11,386 operating shops (Khaosod English), so read 8,923 as what the map showed on that day, not as an audited count of licences.

Among the remaining active establishments the map lists 42 herbal-product shops, 26 storage sites, 8 modern-medicine pharmacies, 4 herbal-product factories, 3 cannabis and hemp extract factories and 2 processing plants. 138 shops are marked closed, 39 revoked and 5 suspended; 24 of the revocations are in Si Sa Ket, and Chonburi has the most closures with 18.

Using the map before you buy

  • Match the licence: the licence number and expiry on the shop's wall should match the map's record.
  • Check status: closed, revoked and suspended shops are marked; a shop that is suspended must not trade.
  • Check the expiry: 3,021 shops have a licence ending 31 December 2026; see the expiry calendar.
  • A licence is not a sale: even at a listed shop, flower may be sold only against a PT33 prescription; see the visitor rules.

Four provinces show no active shop at all: Chai Nat, Trat, Prachuap Khiri Khan and Sa Kaeo (Chai Nat and Trat do list other active premises, such as cultivation sites; Prachuap and Sa Kaeo have no records of any kind). Prachuap includes Hua Hin, and the absence may be a data gap rather than a fact, so check the dashboard rather than infer it. The shops Verdex lists with full profiles are on the Thailand dispensary page.
