At St. Anne's University Hospital in Brno, the cannabis is grown, processed and dispensed in one place. FNUSA announced in April 2024 that the first batches from its own grow had reached patients, and its pharmacy turns them into capsules for the pain clinic. Verdex lists three Czech hospital pharmacies.
The General University Hospital in Prague prepares cannabis for vaporizing and oral use and serves the public through three dispensaries in Prague 2. University Hospital Ostrava has done so since September 2019 with its pain centre. Czech Television reported about 3,800 patients a month in 2025.

Medical cannabis is an individually prepared medicine on an electronic prescription, and since April 1, 2025 general practitioners may prescribe it for chronic intractable pain that other treatment does not relieve; other indications stay with specialists. One prescription can cover up to three months.

Hospital dispensaries keep their own hours. VFN's first dispensary at U Nemocnice 2 opens Monday to Friday 7:00 to 18:00, and Ostrava's public dispensary in the Building A polyclinic entrance hall opens Monday to Friday 7:30 to 15:30, according to their profiles. Ask whether the pharmacy fills prescriptions written elsewhere before travelling.

Who can prescribe medical cannabis in Czechia?
Doctors with an eligible specialization, such as oncology, neurology, pain management or palliative care, can prescribe it. Since April 1, 2025 general practitioners may also do so, but only for chronic intractable pain, according to SÚKL and Zdravotnický deník.
How much of the cost does Czech health insurance cover?
Insurers have paid 90% of the price on up to 30 grams a month since January 2020. The patient covers the remainder and anything above the approved amount.
Can I buy cannabis in a Czech pharmacy without a prescription?
No. Only medical cannabis on a doctor's e-prescription is dispensed by pharmacies. Adult-use possession and home growing became legal for adults 21 and over on January 1, 2026, but there are still no legal shops.
