Czech medical cannabis has a price ceiling: suppliers may charge pharmacies no more than CZK 141.88 per gram of flower since September 1, 2025, under Ministry of Health price decree No. 2/2025/OLZP. The growers behind those grams are few. Verdex lists Lagom Pharmatech in Osek near Rokycany, which supplies pharmacies and exports mainly to Germany; SensiQure, a Prague-Čakovice boutique grower whose first harvest was in May 2022; and Zenplanto, a Prague-registered producer with an indoor grow in Nelahozeves. About 3,800 patients a month used medical cannabis in 2025, according to Czech Television.

How a gram gets from grower to patient

  1. Eligible doctor. A specialist for a listed indication, or a GP for chronic intractable pain since April 1, 2025.
  2. E-prescription. It carries the dose, route, cannabinoid content and product code 9190000 for flower or 9390000 for extract.
  3. Insurer approval above 30 g. Public insurance pays 90% of the price for up to 30 g a month; the prescribing maximum is 180 g.
  4. Pharmacy. It prepares an individually prepared medicinal product; one prescription can cover three months.

The State Institute for Drug Control (SÚKL) caps potency at 25% THC and 23% CBD for these preparations. Doctors wrote 41,008 prescriptions in January to September 2025, and more than 314 kg was prescribed in that period, per SÚKL data reported by Czech Television.

Medical use is not the only legal source of flower. Since January 1, 2026, Act No. 270/2025 lets adults 21+ grow three plants and keep 100 g at home or 25 g in public, but the two routes differ in quality control: only the pharmacy route states THC and CBD content. Questions about this list

Does Czech health insurance pay for medical cannabis?

Yes, partly. Public insurance has paid 90% of the final price for up to 30 grams a month since January 1, 2020, according to the SÚKL and Ministry of Health guidance summarized by Verdex. Quantities above the approved amount are paid by the patient.

Can a Czech GP prescribe medical cannabis?

Since April 1, 2025, yes, but only for chronic pain that other treatment does not relieve, according to Zdravotnický deník. Other indications remain with specialists such as neurologists, oncologists and pain specialists.

Can I buy medical cannabis from a Czech grower directly?

No. Licensed growers supply pharmacies and wholesalers, and patients receive the product from a pharmacy on an electronic prescription. The Ministry of Health caps the price growers may charge pharmacies.
