How cannabis is sold in Dornbirn
Where can I legally buy hemp flower in Dornbirn?
Verdex lists one shop: Bonzai Baba, a head and grow shop at Riedgasse 44 that holds a Monopolverwaltung (MVG) licence. Other Dornbirn sellers appear in web listings, including a vending machine at Moosmahdstraße 28 and stores in the Messepark, but I could not confirm their licences, so look each name up on the MVG list before paying.
Why does a shop need a licence for flower?
Because the Administrative Court held in November 2024 that smokable hemp with at most 0.3 percent THC falls under the tobacco monopoly. Tobacconists are the default channel, and specialist shops that traded mainly in flowers on 10 January 2025 may keep selling to the end of 2028 if the MVG licenses them.
Is stronger cannabis tolerated in Vorarlberg?
No. Possession of any THC-bearing cannabis is punishable under section 27 of the Suchtmittelgesetz, even in tiny amounts. Prosecutors can divert small personal-use cases under section 35 instead of going to trial, which is a procedure, not a right. Public use draws extra charges.
Do local police actually pursue it?
ORF Vorarlberg reported that eight in ten drug-law reports concern cannabis, with about 1,000 notices in 2015 and around 600 more four years later. After Germany legalised home use in 2024, Vorarlberg announced tighter checks, according to Schwäbische Zeitung. For the national picture, see the Austria page.
Cannabis in Dornbirn: questions
Can I bring cannabis I bought legally in Germany to Dornbirn?
I found no exception in the Suchtmittelgesetz for it, and Germany's rules stop at its own border, so assume possession in Austria is punishable.
Does Bonzai Baba sell THC cannabis?
No. Its licence covers hemp flowers up to 0.3 percent THC, and the sale window runs to 31 December 2028.
