How cannabis is sold in Innsbruck
According to the profile Verdex holds, Canatur at Templstraße 5 is the only shop in Tyrol on the MVG hemp licence list, and that makes unlicensed ones easy to spot.
- Look the name up. The MVG publishes a list of licensed hemp shops, last read here as of 18 June 2026; a flower seller in Tyrol who is not on it and is not a tobacconist has no lawful footing.
- Ask when it opened. Only shops that were run as hemp specialists on 10 January 2025 could apply, so a shop that opened afterwards cannot hold the licence.
- Do not expect discounts. Retail prices are set by the approved wholesaler and the shop's margin is regulated by law, so a price far below the tobacconist's is a warning sign.
- Check the strength. The licence covers hemp flower holding up to 0.3 percent THC, from the approved catalogue.
How long does the licence run?
Until 31 December 2028, when the tobacco monopoly's tobacconist channel becomes the only route. Applications opened on 12 January 2026 and the monopoly amendment took effect on 1 April 2026, according to the MVG.
And stronger cannabis?
Still illegal. Section 27 of the Suchtmittelgesetz punishes possession even of small amounts, while section 35 lets prosecutors divert personal-use cases without a trial. See the Austria page for the national rules.
Cannabis in Innsbruck: questions
Can a Tyrol tobacconist sell hemp flower too?
Yes. Since the 2024 court ruling, smokable hemp belongs to the tobacco monopoly, so tobacconists are the standard retail channel.
How do I check the licence?
Use the hemp-shop list on the MVG website; the name and address must both match.
