What does Portocanna make?
Portocanna, at Rua dos Comerciantes de Carnes 4 in the Várzea industrial zone, processes cannabis under EU-GMP certification issued by INFARMED and sells under the Hexacan name. The company was founded in 2019 and says it runs its own laboratory and a dedicated research and development team. It describes itself as a European leader in high-quality medicinal cannabis, which is a company claim, not a ranking we can verify.
Which Hexacan products are authorised?
In December 2024 INFARMED approved three Portocanna marketing authorisations: two flowers and the first sublingual solution with a high THC level, according to Cannareporter. The company's range sits between 20 and 25% THC, and in November 2025 it added another sublingual solution with 20% THC.
How do they reach patients?
Hexacan is ordered through a national distributor and is available to any pharmacy in Portugal, on prescription only. Two flowers are on the list, Tilray THC 18 in 15 g and Portocanna Hexacan 22% in 10 g, according to Prohibition Partners' 2025 overview, and INFARMED restricts sales to pharmacies. A Santarém resident therefore buys from a local pharmacy, not from the factory.
