Portocanna is a pharmaceutical company in the industrial zone of Santarém that processes medical cannabis rather than growing it. It says it has operated in Portugal since 2019 and invested in a 3,000-square-meter EU-GMP unit with post-harvest processing, a quality-control laboratory, a certified extraction unit, packaging lines and storage. Its model is to take raw material from GACP-certified growers, turn it into pharmaceutical-grade substances and preparations, and supply patients in Portugal and abroad through distribution partners. The company says it is backed by international family offices.
Its contact page lists three INFARMED authorizations: for activities relating to the cannabis plant for medical purposes, for manufacturing, importing and distributing active substances, and for manufacturing medicines for human use. A March 2025 CannaReporter summary of INFARMED lists showed Portocanna licensed for manufacturing, import and export and EU-GMP certified.
For Portuguese patients the relevant brand is Hexacan. The Portuguese Medical Cannabis Observatory (OPCM) lists Hexa 01 dried flower at 22% THC (authorized November 2024), versions at 20% and 25% THC that had not yet reached pharmacies, and Hexa 01 Oleoso, a sublingual extract with 20% THC approved in November 2024. These products are dispensed only by pharmacies on prescription. Portocanna's patient page offers approved product information on request but does not sell directly.
