In Canelones a pharmacy address can be a road marker. Farmacia Ruta 6 Km 23.100 stands in Toledo, another sits at Ruta 101 Km 25.800 in Villa Aeroparque, and the one in Marindia is on Calle de las Esponjas at Avda del Coral, manzana 36. The department wraps around Montevideo, and IRCCA counted eight authorized pharmacies and 172 membership clubs there in April 2026, second only to the capital on both measures.

Verdex lists nine entries: Farmacia Los Correa on Iturria in Pando, Farmacia Garibaldi 54 in Paso Carrasco and others in La Paz, Solymar, Salinas and Atlántida. Verdex has one more entry than IRCCA's count, so confirm any pharmacy on the regulator's list.

Commuter belt and beach towns, same national rules

The pharmacies serve two very different populations. Paso Carrasco, Solymar, La Paz and Toledo are commuter towns beside Montevideo, while Salinas, Marindia and Atlántida are Costa de Oro resorts busy in summer. Buyers must be Uruguayan citizens or permanent residents aged 18 or over, registered at a Correo Uruguayo branch, and may buy up to 10 grams a week in 5 gram packets at state-set prices.

  • Summer visitors: cannot register, and clubs may admit only residents, so a holiday rental on the coast does not open the door.
  • Ask first: pharmacies may not advertise, so registered buyers typically call ahead to learn whether they have stock.
  • One route: a person chooses between pharmacy, club or home grow. Home growers in Canelones may keep up to six female plants per household, the same national cap as everywhere else.

Club members receive at most 480 grams a year from their club. Smoking is banned in enclosed public spaces and workplaces, and legally bought cannabis may not leave the country. For the capital, see Montevideo pharmacies. Registration steps and limits are in our pharmacy buying guide, and the tourist question explainer says why visitors are excluded.
