SOMAÍ Pharmaceuticals

SOMAÍ Pharmaceuticals is a cannabinoid medicines manufacturer based in Carregado, in the Lisbon district. It was founded in Lisbon in 2018 by the American entrepreneur Michael Sassano and received EU-GMP certification from INFARMED for its facility, which produces extracts, oils and flower products for export. The company says it distributes to more than 15 countries and presents itself as a vertically integrated multi-country operator.

For years SOMAÍ sold mainly abroad. On 20 January 2026 it announced that INFARMED had granted market authorizations for three of its medical cannabis products in Portugal and, separately, a Portuguese GDP distribution licence that lets it supply the domestic market directly. The company said two more dossiers were under review and three others were being prepared for 2026. The Portuguese Medical Cannabis Observatory (OPCM) lists two SOMAÍ botanical products, THC:CBD 25:1 and 50:1, approved in December 2025 but not yet dispensed when OPCM last updated in August 2026. A March 2025 CannaReporter summary of INFARMED lists showed SOMAÍ licensed for manufacturing, import and export.

The Carregado office is open Monday to Friday from 9:00 to 18:00 for business contacts. Patients cannot buy from the company. In Portugal, cannabis preparations require a doctor's prescription for an INFARMED-approved indication and are dispensed only by pharmacies. People searching for SOMAÍ products in Portugal should ask their doctor and pharmacist about availability, since some authorized products were not yet on pharmacy shelves.
