MediCane Portugal (MHI Cultivo Medicinal)

MediCane Portugal is the Portuguese subsidiary of MediCane Health Inc., a pharmaceutical company incorporated in Canada that researches, produces and sells cannabis-based medicines and also has a subsidiary in Israel. Its Portuguese office is on Avenida da República in central Lisbon. The Portuguese operating company appears in licence lists as MHI Cultivo Medicinal SA (Medicane).

Two CannaReporter compilations of INFARMED data place it among the country's established producers. At the end of 2022, MHI Cultivo Medicinal was one of 11 Portuguese cannabis companies with EU-GMP certification, out of 34 licensed at the time. In March 2025 it appeared in the lists for cultivation, manufacturing, import and export. MediCane's website describes Portuguese pharmaceutical and cultivation units and introduces a quality team with experience of GMP inspections by INFARMED and the US FDA, including a qualified person responsible for batch release. Trade reporting places its cultivation in Campo Maior, Alentejo, but we could not confirm the site address on the company's own pages.

MediCane Portugal does not sell to patients. Portugal's medical cannabis law allows any doctor to prescribe an authorized preparation when conventional treatment has failed, and pharmacies dispense it; most licensed Portuguese producers, including MediCane, supply export markets or other manufacturers. We did not find a MediCane product on the Portuguese Medical Cannabis Observatory's list of preparations authorized for pharmacies.
