An Australian pharmacy cannot keep unregistered cannabis medicine on its shelf, NSW Health says: it may hold stock only if the TGA has approved supply to a particular patient, dispensing needs a valid prescription and products cannot be substituted. That is why the three pharmacist-led dispensaries Verdex lists work from your script, not from a menu.
Astrid Dispensary is at 575 Chapel Street, South Yarra, with a Byron Bay branch. Folium Health has shops in North Strathfield and Rose Bay and says orders are dispatched the same day. MedWest Dispensary in Westminster, Perth, ships anywhere in Australia for a flat A$15.

The Pharmacy Board of Australia's guidance, reviewed on April 30, 2026, tells pharmacists to use real-time prescription monitoring, counsel patients on safe use, tell them when a product is unapproved by the TGA and avoid excessive or unrequested repeat supply.
| Dispensary | Where | Hours in its profile |
|---|---|---|
| Astrid | South Yarra; Byron Bay | Mon-Fri 9-6, Sat 10-3; Byron Bay Mon-Fri 9-5 |
| Folium Health | North Strathfield; Rose Bay | North Strathfield weekdays 9-6, Sat 9-2 |
| MedWest | Westminster, Perth | Mon-Fri 9-6, Sat 9-5, Sun 11-4 |
Confirm hours by phone. A dispensary cannot prescribe: Astrid refers people without a script to an affiliated telehealth clinic, and Folium offers a free 15-minute call about eligibility. THC-containing products are usually Schedule 8 medicines, and the prescriber may need a state or territory permit alongside TGA approval, according to state health departments.
You are not tied to the clinic's partner: the Medical Republic has reported concern about clinics steering patients to preferred pharmacies, and a script may be filled at any pharmacy that can source the product. Costs and pathways are in our Australian access guide.
Questions about this list
Can I buy medicinal cannabis from an Australian pharmacy without a prescription?
No. Cannabis medicines are prescription-only, and pharmacies may order unregistered products only against a valid prescription, according to state health guidance for pharmacists such as NSW Health's.
Do I have to use the pharmacy my clinic recommends?
No. Under Australian rules you can fill a prescription at any pharmacy that can source the product. Regulators have raised concern about clinics that charge fees to release prescriptions or steer patients, Business of Cannabis reported.
Will a dispensary post cannabis medicine to another state?
Some do. MedWest says it ships anywhere in Australia for a flat A$15, and Folium says orders are dispatched the same day nationwide. State rules on THC products still apply to the prescriber and the pharmacy.
Buying in Australia
Possession (no prescription)
Illegal in all states and the Northern Territory; penalties and diversion schemes vary by state. The ACT allows adults limited personal possession (see below).
Prescribed cannabis
Legal when prescribed by a doctor through the TGA Special Access Scheme or Authorised Prescriber pathway and dispensed by a pharmacy. Only Epidyolex and Sativex are registered medicines.
ACT personal use
Since January 31, 2020 adults 18+ in the ACT may possess up to 50 g dried (150 g fresh) and grow 2 plants per person, 4 per household. Sale, supply and public use remain offenses; Commonwealth law is unchanged.
Home grow
Illegal everywhere except the limited ACT allowance; a prescription does not permit cultivation. Commercial cultivation requires Office of Drug Control licences.
