Bloomwell

Bloomwell is a Frankfurt-based telemedicine platform that links patients across Germany with partner physicians who can prescribe medical cannabis and with licensed pharmacies that dispense it. The company dates its start to 2020, when the service ran as Algea Care. According to Bloomwell, the Algea Care website was rebuilt and relaunched under the Bloomwell name in summer 2024, combining its telemedicine and pharmacy-marketplace services under one brand.

Everything happens online. Patients register, complete a medical questionnaire and can upload earlier records. They then book a short video appointment or send a prescription request for a doctor to review. If the physician agrees that treatment is appropriate, a signed electronic prescription goes to a partner pharmacy, which ships by DHL or keeps the order for pickup. Bloomwell says it works with more than 65 doctors and over 30 partner pharmacies; its patient totals are company figures.

In September 2026 the site listed the first prescription request as free (regular price €25.22) and follow-up prescriptions at €28.25, calculated under the German fee schedule for physicians (GOÄ). The medicine is paid separately to the pharmacy, and since 29 July 2026 statutory health insurers can no longer be billed for cannabis flower, according to the Federal Health Ministry.

Two legal points matter for anyone looking for a medical cannabis prescription in Germany online. Telemedicine prescriptions and mail-order delivery were still legal in September 2026, but a pending amendment to the Medical Cannabis Act would require an in-person visit before a first flower prescription and end mail-order shipping of flower. And in March 2026 the Federal Court of Justice ruled (I ZR 74/25) that condition-based advertising on the former Algea Care website breached the ban on public advertising for prescription drugs.
