The Cannabis Licensing Authority (CLA) says it has issued 196 licences, yet its own store finder showed just three pins in September 2026. Jamaica's legal dispensaries are CLA-licensed herb houses. Residents need a doctor's recommendation, visitors need a medical card from home or a Ministry of Health non-resident permit, and the limit is 2 ounces at a time. Verdex lists 8 herb houses, none marked verified yet, as the CLA publishes little of its register, from Kaya Herb House at Drax Hall, St. Ann, which opened as Jamaica's first in 2018, to HedoWeedo, a herb house with a smoking lounge at Rutland Point, Negril.

The stores cluster where visitors are: the north coast of St. Ann (Discovery Bay, Runaway Bay, Drax Hall), Negril, Montego Bay's Hip Strip and Kingston. Licence dates on the CLA's last published list are current for 4/20 Ganjabliss in Discovery Bay (April 2027), 4/20 Therapeutic Bliss in Runaway Bay (January 2027) and Mr. P Tuff Buds in Kingston (April 2027), but lapsed for HedoWeedo in Negril and Island Strains on Montego Bay's Hip Strip. A past date does not prove a store is unlicensed, because the list was rarely updated; ask to see the current licence.

Since April 16, 2026, amended CLA regulations let licensed retailers deliver, but the CLA has not said how paperwork is checked at the door. Our guides explain how to check a herb house and the visitor rules on permits and public smoking. Take nothing home: export is illegal.

Questions about this list

Can tourists buy ganja legally in Jamaica?

Yes, through a medical route. Visitors can apply to the Ministry of Health for a non-resident permit, based on a foreign prescription or a signed declaration, to buy up to 2 ounces at a time from a licensed herb house, according to the Ministry of Justice fact sheet on the 2015 law.

Where can I smoke ganja in Jamaica?

At a private residence, or in a space licensed for medical or therapeutic smoking. Public places, including streets, beaches and bus stops, carry a J$500 ticket, and 'public place' also covers areas within 5 metres of them.

How do I check that a Jamaican dispensary is licensed?

Check the CLA licence displayed in the store for the business name, retail category and an unexpired date, and match the name to the CLA store finder. A seller who asks for no medical paperwork at all is a red flag.
