About Medalchemy
Alicante pharmaceutical R&D and API maker founded in 2002, now Curaleaf International's cannabis extraction and manufacturing centre in Spain.
Medalchemy is a pharmaceutical research and active-ingredient manufacturer in San Vicente del Raspeig, on the edge of Alicante. It was founded in 2002 as a technology company that grew out of the University of Alicante, and today it belongs to Curaleaf International, the European and international arm of the Curaleaf cannabis group.
On its own website Medalchemy presents itself as a GMP-certified R&D company that develops therapeutics, active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and new chemical entities, runs custom synthesis and process development, and scales production up to a pilot plant that can make 25 to 30 kilograms per batch following ICH Q7 guidelines. It also offers contract research services. Curaleaf International describes the Alicante site as its hub for pharmaceutical research, extraction and manufacturing, with teams working on extraction, formulation development, analytical testing and cannabinoid-based medical products for international markets.
Medalchemy does not sell to consumers. Its role is in the regulated pharmaceutical supply chain that Spain opened further in October 2025, when Royal Decree 903/2025 allowed standardized cannabis preparations, registered with the medicines agency AEMPS, to be prescribed by hospital specialists and dispensed through hospital pharmacies. We could not find Medalchemy in the AEMPS list of cannabis cultivation authorizations, which is expected for a company focused on extraction and synthesis rather than growing. People researching cannabis API manufacturers in Spain or Curaleaf's Spanish operations will find it listed here as a business-to-business supplier.
