About Hemporium
Cape Town hemp shop founded in 1996, selling hemp textiles, cosmetics and cannabinoid products online and from its Westlake concept store.
Hemporium is a Cape Town hemp company founded in 1996 and one of the longest-running names in South Africa's hemp scene. It runs a concept store and offices at 15 Bell Crescent in Westlake Business Park, an online shop, and wholesale supply to other retailers around the country.
Its range goes well beyond CBD. The website sells hemp fabric and clothing, a natural skincare and haircare line that the company says has been made for about 25 years, hemp stalk products, seeds and a cannabinoids section. Hemporium has also pioneered hemp building in South Africa using imported hemp, with projects such as The House that Hemp Built in Noordhoek and a hemp house in the Bo-Kaap, and it has lobbied for years for farmers to be allowed to grow industrial hemp.
That lobbying has partly paid off. Industrial hemp is now cultivated under Department of Agriculture permits, and from 1 December 2025 the THC limit for hemp leaves and flowering heads rose from 0.2% to 2%, according to the Government Gazette notice summarized by industry sources. CBD products sold over the counter still have to meet SAHPRA's Schedule 0 conditions.
