About De Vliegende Hollander
Groningen coffeeshop on Gedempte Zuiderdiep in the regulated-cannabis trial, stocking only experiment growers; open daily 10:00–00:00.
De Vliegende Hollander (The Flying Dutchman) is a coffeeshop at Gedempte Zuiderdiep 63 in the center of Groningen, open every day from 10:00 to midnight. It has a sister shop in the city, Reykjavik.
Groningen is one of the ten municipalities in the Dutch controlled-supply experiment, and the shop states that it is part of it and that its products come entirely from companies taking part. It names the brands it carries: Aardachtig, Canadelaar Wiet, Holigram, Fyta, Groeten uit HH and Leli Holland. Under the experiment rules, which have applied in full since 7 April 2025, cannabis comes in sealed, neutral packaging with a QR-code leaflet, every package is registered in a track-and-trace system, and the government's food and product safety authority (NVWA) supervises quality, including testing for heavy metals and other harmful substances. The usual limits still apply: 18+ only and no more than 5 grams per purchase. Besides cannabis, the shop sells grinders, rolling papers and lighters.
For anyone looking for a coffeeshop in Groningen, reviews give a mixed picture. On Google the shop averaged 4.4 stars from about 950 reviews in September 2026. Reviewers praise the variety of strains and edibles, friendly people and, in one August review, good value on a mixed five-gram pack with free rolling papers. Others call it on the pricey side, and two reviews from July 2026 describe unfriendly or aggressive staff, one of them at the sister shop as well. A 2023 comment on the listing complained about empty shelves and uneven quality during the experiment's early phase.
