Key takeaways

  • The most popular Dutch weed averaged 15.6% THC in 2025, up from 13.8% in 2024; the strongest averaged 17.4%.
  • Average prices were €11.33 a gram for popular weed and €12.57 for the strongest.
  • Amsterdam customers paid €13.15 a gram for popular weed against €10.74 elsewhere.
  • Imported and Dutch hash averaged 23.0% and 23.7% THC; hash prices did not track potency.
  • Trimbos warns that a new lab method since 2023 makes long-term comparisons unreliable.

Dutch coffeeshop weed got stronger in 2025 while prices held steady, according to the 26th edition of the THC monitor, the annual study in which the Trimbos Institute buys cannabis anonymously from about 50 coffeeshops (49 in 2025) and tests it in a lab.

The strongest weed each shop offered averaged 17.4% THC, up from 14.7%, and cost €12.57 a gram. Imported weed was rare and weak at 5.6% THC. CBD was almost absent from Dutch weed, with a median of 0% in the most popular product.

Amsterdam's price premium

Amsterdam buyers paid about €2.41 more per gram for the most popular weed than buyers elsewhere, cannabisindustrie.nl calculated from the report.

ProductAmsterdamRest of the Netherlands
Most popular Dutch weed€13.15/g€10.74/g
Strongest Dutch weed€13.13/g€12.39/g
Imported hash€10.44/g€10.22/g

Hash was the value outlier: about one and a half times as strong as weed yet cheaper per gram, and unlike weed its price showed no link to THC content. Trimbos also noted that modern Moroccan hash types are increasingly sold under traditional names such as Polm and Caramello, so names no longer reveal how a hash was made.

How far to trust the trend

The jump in THC looks large, but Trimbos cautions against reading it as a trend yet. It switched to a more accurate testing method (HPLC-UV) in 2023, so figures before and after are hard to compare, and whether there are systematic changes "will become apparent in coming years," the institute says.
