Case pending — allegations not proven

The source describes allegations or a case that has not been decided. Nothing here has been proven, and the business may contest it. We’ll update this entry when the matter is resolved.

Summary

Montu Group Pty Ltd and its subsidiary Alternaleaf Pty Ltd, which ran the Alternaleaf online clinic, were taken to the Federal Court of Australia by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), together with their common director, according to a TGA release of April 18, 2024. The TGA alleges that the companies advertised medicinal cannabis on websites and social media using terms such as 'medical cannabis' and 'plant medicine' to promote a service through which patients could buy prescription-only products after an online consultation, and that Montu ran a website advertising medicinal cannabis during Medicinal Cannabis Awareness Week 2023. The regulator also alleges that the ads implied TGA approval, presented medicinal cannabis as safe, free of side effects or miraculous, and used health professional endorsements, and that they continued despite repeated warnings. The TGA sought declarations, penalties and injunctions. The TGA's court-action page (updated 28 September 2026) lists no outcome.

The TGA says the Dolphins matter is separate from the court proceedings. The TGA names the director; this entry does not.
