Summary
On May 23, 2025, Fukuoka Prefecture announced that a test purchase of "CBD EAST GUMMIES" (strawberry, 8 pieces), sold in a store in the prefecture, had found Δ9-THC above the 1 ppm residue limit for gummies, and MHLW and other prefectures relayed the warning. According to Tsuhan Tsushin, the seller was Koutoku of Yokohama, and Fukuoka Prefecture and the Kyushu Regional Bureau of Health and Welfare carried out an on-site inspection and instructed the seller to stop sales. Wellness Daily News reported that the prefecture said the excess was several tens of times the limit. Since December 12, 2024, Japan treats any product whose Δ9-THC exceeds the residue limit (10 ppm for room-temperature liquid oils and powders, 0.1 ppm for water-based products, 1 ppm for other forms) as a narcotic under the Narcotics and Psychotropics Control Law.
