Case pending — allegations not proven

The source describes allegations or a case that has not been decided. Nothing here has been proven, and the business may contest it. We’ll update this entry when the matter is resolved.

Summary

On 20 June 2025 the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) said it had started Federal Court proceedings against AG Therapeutics Pty Ltd, which trades as Atlus, and its sole director, together with Mamamia.com.au Pty Ltd, News Life Media Pty Ltd and Straight Up PR Pty Ltd, for advertising medicinal cannabis in alleged contravention of the Therapeutic Goods Act 1989.

The TGA alleges that Atlus advertised medicinal cannabis on its website and social media, including through euphemisms such as 'plant medicine', and promoted it for serious conditions. It also alleges that articles on Mamamia and News Life's Body+Soul website, published after a public relations campaign by Atlus, advertised medicinal cannabis and included testimonials from a nurse and a doctor that the Advertising Code prohibits. According to the TGA, the director allegedly facilitated and approved the articles. The TGA seeks declarations and pecuniary penalties. These are allegations; the court had not published a judgment by September 2026.
